Better2Know offers Canadians an Early Detection Test for HIV at just 10 days after any potential exposure (or a 10 day incubation period).

What is the 10 day HIV PCR Test?

This test can detect the presence of the HIV 1 virus 10 days after potential exposure. PCR stands for Polymerase Chain Reaction and is a testing method that extracts and amplifies the genetic material of an organism (in this case HIV). Because testing using PCR DNA checks for the virus itself, the window period is shorter compared with other types of HIV testing. This means it can provide a positive result sooner than other tests.

Is the 10 day HIV Test accurate?

This HIV test is slightly less sensitive than the 28 day test. Therefore, if you choose our 10 Day test we would recommend that you have a follow up with a 28 day test. The results of the HIV PCR test will be ready within ten working day from when your sample is received in the laboratory.

How do I get my results?

The results of all Better2Know tests will be uploaded into your secure patient area.  You can be notified when all of your results are ready.  If your test is reactive for HIV, we will discuss with you the next steps, which will include a second confirmation test and onward support.
